"My husband and my son are both 'bench trained' goldsmiths, which means they learned by doing rather than taking one of the modern jewellery courses that you can do in Birmingham these days. For us, the best jobs are when someone comes in looking to create a new ring from scratch to celebrate one of life's important moments - that's the kind of thing that only a real jewellery shop can do for you.
We can work with them to set a budget, find a suitable stone, create a design and then actually make the ring for them in our workshop.
It is also lovely when a client brings in a ring that has been in the family for decades and is now being passed on to the next generation. We can alter the size, make sure the stones and the fixings are in good condition, and polish it up so that it looks just perfect. It is a great feeling when you get a get a family heirloom ready for its next owner - it makes us feel like our shop is part of the community.
