Victoria Road Mosque

A new use for a sacred building

The building opened as a Congregational Chapel in 1859 The building for sale in 2008

The neoclassical building at the far end of Victoria Place was once a United Reformed Church.  Today it is used as a mosque by some of Newport’s Islamic residents, who meet here for communal prayers on Fridays.

About 150 Muslim families worship here on Stow Hill.

The congregation bought the church in 2008 and have started repairing the Grade II building using their own funds and a small grant.

Visitors are welcome to enter the mosque between prayer times if it is open.  As guests, they are asked to follow the traditional rules by removing their shoes.
