After arriving from the Caribbean in the 1950s, Roy describes how he made a life for himself in Newport.
He finds his first job through the South Wales Echo as an apprentice, and soon forms friendships with a bunch of ‘young fellas’ to go dancing and have a good time. Roy remembers that he missed his mother more than anything else about his homelife. His life was transformed when he managed to get his girlfriend from Jamaica to follow him to Newport.
